Haryana DSP, 5 others booked in Hisar suicide case

PTC Web Desk: Former Indian cricketer and Haryana Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Joginder Sharma, along with five others, have been booked for their alleged involvement in the suicide of a resident from Hisar.

Joginder Sharma, renowned for his decisive final over in the inaugural ICC T20 final in South Africa in 2007, subsequently assumed the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police in Haryana.

The Haryana Police have registered an FIR implicating Joginder Sharma, Ajayveer, Ishwar Jhajharia, Prem Khati, Arjun and Rajendra Sihag for allegedly abetting the suicide of Pawan, a Hisar resident. The tragic incident occurred on January 1, purportedly stemming from a property dispute.

Following Pawan's death, his mother, Sunita, approached the authorities on the subsequent day and highlighted an ongoing property-related court case. She alleged that the accused, including DSP Joginder Sharma, had subjected her son to harassment, ultimately leading to his decision to end his life.

The grieving family staged a demonstration, withholding Pawan's body, urging for the immediate arrest of the accused under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Furthermore, they presented a list of six demands to the police, seeking financial assistance for the family and a thorough investigation into the matter.

A senior police official confirmed that the accused individuals face charges of abetment of suicide, and the inclusion of sections under the SC/ST Act is contingent upon the ongoing investigation.

In response, Joginder Sharma refuted any involvement in the case, stating, "I am not familiar with this case. I have no knowledge of, nor have I ever encountered Pawan."
