'Arrest can't be termed illegal': HC dismisses Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging his CBI arrest
PTC News Desk: The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea contesting his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Excise Policy case.
The court has dismissed the bail plea, giving Kejriwal the option of approaching the trial court for further relief.
Earlier today, Arvind Kejriwal's legal team raised the issue with the bench of Justices Neena Bansal Krishna, seeking the court to expedite the decision on his applications.'
The same bench had reserved its decision on Arvind Kejriwal's regular bail plea in the CBI case involving the Excise Policy for July 29, 2024. Additionally, on July 17, 2024, the court reserved its decision on Kejriwal's plea contesting his arrest by the CBI in the same case.
During the hearing, the Central Bureau of Investigation opposed the bail plea, referring to Kejriwal as the case's "sutradhar". During the proceedings, CBI Special Counsel DP Singh informed the Delhi High Court that as their investigation advanced, they acquired further evidence implicating Arvind Kejriwal. The chargesheet had been issued, naming six people, including Kejriwal, but five of them had not been arrested.
Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Arvind Kejriwal's attorney, argued that there was no hard evidence against him.
