Health ministry makes mandatory RT-PCR test for ministers before meeting PM Modi
PTC News Desk: An RT-PCR test has been mandated for ministers scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as the number of active Covid-19 cases in the country has surpassed 7,000.
Around 70 BJP leaders from Delhi — including the Chief Minister, all seven MPs, and MLAs — who are set to meet PM Modi at his residence this evening, will be tested beforehand, sources said. This gathering comes after the BJP’s win in the Delhi Assembly elections, with PM Modi inviting state party leaders for dinner at 7:30 pm.
According to an official update from the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, India has recorded 306 new Covid-19 cases and six fatalities in the past 24 hours.
Kerala reported the highest number of deaths (three), while Maharashtra and Karnataka reported one and two deaths respectively.
Kerala also reported the largest single-day spike with 170 new infections. Gujarat followed with 114 new cases and 1,223 active cases, while Karnataka logged 100 fresh cases. Delhi saw 66 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the city’s total active caseload to 757, the ministry added.
Amid a rise in Covid cases, the Centre has launched mock drills across the nation to assess hospital preparedness. It has further directed states to ensure an adequate supply of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential drugs.
