Heatwave in north India to persist until tomorrow, light rain expected in Delhi today

According to the IMD, Delhi is expected to get light rain and thunderstorms through Friday. People will get some relief from the intense heatwave thanks to the rain.

Heatwave in north India to persist until tomorrow, light rain expected in Delhi today

PTC News Desk: Today, heatwave-like conditions are expected in several parts of Delhi, east Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, etc., according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, a number of states, including West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, will see intense rainfall.

"Heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar during June 5–9 in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan on June 5; Odisha on June 5 and 6, 2024," the weather service stated in its morning bulletin.


According to the IMD, Delhi is expected to get light rain and thunderstorms through Friday. People will get some relief from the intense heatwave thanks to the rain. The meteorological authority has projected that the highest temperature in the nation's capital will remain between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius.

RAINFALL PREDICTION

With a probability of thunder and lightning, the IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for portions of Northeast India, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka today.

While some parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Odisha are cautioned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, Sikkim, Assam, and Maharashtra may see light to severe rains.

In addition, light to moderate rainfall is predicted for the Western Himalayas, South Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and the Sub-Himalayan region. Rain is also predicted for parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.

Over Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal, isolated light rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are quite likely. Over Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh, isolated to scattered light to moderate rain is also possible.
