Heavy rain alert: IMD issues heavy rainfall warning for next four days; check details

PTC Web Desk: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a warning for several states with regard to heavy to very heavy rainfall. The states affected include Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Karnataka, with the warning extending for the next four days.

Furthermore, the IMD has also issued alerts for Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala until July 20. The forecast indicates that Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh may experience heavy rainfall on July 18 and July 19.




Himachal on high alert

"#OrangeAlert: #HimachalPradesh & #Uttarakhand likely to get heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) during 16th to 17th July", the IMD said.

The IMD also issued a 'moderate to high risk' alert predicting flash floods occurrence in five districts of Himachal Pradesh till July 17.

"Moderate to high risk" of flash food over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of Chamba, Kangra, Sirmaour, Shimla and Kullu districts till July 17," a bulletin issued by IMD said.

Yamuna crosses danger mark again

The water level of the Yamuna on Monday morning crossed 205.48 metre, slightly above the danger mark of 205.33 metre, even as the waterlogging situation continues to persist in several parts of the national capital.

As per the Central Water Commission, the water level, which had breached the danger mark, flooding vast swathes of the national capital, was recorded at 205.48  at 7 am on Monday down from 206.02 m at 8 am on Sunday. As per the data, the water level stood at 205.45 m for the last 3 hours before 7 am.

Earlier, the water level of the river was recorded at 205.56 metres at 8 PM on Sunday. The Yamuna in Delhi crossed the danger mark of 205.33 metre at 5 pm on July 10.

Situation grim in Assam

The flood-like situation in Biswanth subdivision continued to be grim as over 8,000 more persons have been affected due to the flooded water of Brahmputra river. Some more areas has been inundated and the number of flood affected people has crossed more than 40,000 in the Biswanth subdivision.

Pregnant woman, sick child rescued 

Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (STRF), continuously working in Haridwar district for the rescue of people stranded in submerged houses in flooded areas of Haridwar, has rescued a pregnant woman and a small girl from Laksar town in Uttarakhand.

In Laksar of Haridwar district, the SDRF reached the spot after receiving information about the health of a small girl in a house submerged due to waterlogging, and rescued the girl and took her to the hospital. As per information, the SDRF Uttarakhand Police immediately reached the spot on the information of a pregnant woman having labour pain in a house submerged due to waterlogging in Laksar police station, Adarsh ​​Nagar of district Haridwar. The pregnant woman was brought to a safe place by raft with full caution. After that, she was also taken to the hospital by ambulance.
