Heavy rain lashes Delhi-NCR; IMD issues orange alert and predicts more rain in North India
PTC Web Desk: Parts of the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy to moderate rainfall on Friday, resulting in waterlogging in various areas of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert, cautioning residents to be prepared as severe weather conditions are expected. This alert may lead to disruptions to transportation, including road, rail, and air travel, with possible power outages.
The IMD said heavy rain was likely at isolated locations in Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, with thunderstorms and lightning forecast across northwest India, except in Haryana. Friday’s maximum temperature in Delhi is projected to be around 28°C, which is six degrees below the seasonal average.
A weather depression located near Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, around 40 km west-southwest of the city and 70 km west-northwest of Hardoi, is expected to move north-northeast over the next 24 hours, potentially bringing relief from continuous rain in the Delhi-NCR region in the coming days.
In addition to Delhi, other northern states such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh are also expected to experience rainfall over the next two to three days. Uttarakhand is set to receive moderate to heavy rain between September 13 and 14, while Haryana may see light to moderate showers with heavier bursts from September 13 to 15. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is also forecast for eastern and western Uttar Pradesh during this period.
