Himachal witnesses heavy snowfall, public utility systems disrupted in several locations

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), January 21: Heavy snowfall has disrupted Himachal Pradesh's public utility systems over the last two days.

In the state, 355 roads, including three National Highways, are closed. 14 roads in Chamba, 2 in Kangra, 29 in Kinnaur, 47 roads and 2 national Highways (NH) in Kullu, 29 roads in Mandi district, 54 roads in Shimla, and 177 roads in Lahaul Spiti were closed.


Due to heavy snowfall, the Rohtang Pass NH-3 and NH-305 in Kullu were closed.

The NH-505 Gramphu-Lossar route and the NH-3 Darcha-Sarchu route will be closed until the summer.

In the state, 194 electricity supply schemes have been disrupted.

Chamba has the most failed electricity schemes. A total of 125 electricity schemes have been disrupted in Chamba, 1 in Hamirpur, 1 in Kangra's Palampur, 42 in Kullu, 14 in Mandi, and 11 in Shimla.

Water supply schemes (WSS) are also being hampered. Due to severe weather, 19 water supply schemes in the state have been impacted.

1 in Chamba's Bharmaur, 2 in Lahaul Spiti, and the most, 16 in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district.

On Saturday morning, Keylong in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul Spiti district recorded temperatures as low as 7.8 degrees below freezing.

Shimla recorded 2.3 degrees Celsius, Dharamshala 4.2, Una 4, Solan 0.8, and Manali 0 degrees Celsius. The second-lowest temperature was also recorded in the Lahaul Spiti district, at -7.3 degrees in Kukumseri.
