Hoax flight hijack threat at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International airport
Hyderabad (Telangana), October 9: The authorities of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGI), Hyderabad, received a hoax flight hijack threat via email on Monday. However, swift and efficient response by the police and airport officials ensured the safety of passengers while investigating the matter thoroughly.
According to local police reports, the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) received an email alleging a planned hijack of an Air India flight from Hyderabad to Dubai. The airport authorities conducted a meticulous verification process and determined that the threat was hoax. A case has been registered and an investigation is currently underway to trace the source of the hoax threat.
Inspector R Srinivas of the RGI Police Station commented said,"A mail has been received by an Airport authority AOCC alleging that one passenger is going to hijack on a flight travelling from Air India Hyderabad to Dubai. We have verified it and it's not correct. We have registered a case, and its investigation is on."
"As a precautionary measure, all passengers scheduled to board the flight in question were off-loaded, thoroughly screened, and subsequently accommodated on a different flight," added Srinivas.
