Punjab crime: The police claimed to have cracked the murder case of a 30-year-old anganwadi helper within few hours with the arrest of the key accused.  Ramanpreet Kaur, a mother of two, was brutally murdered inside her anganwadi centre at Fatehpur Manianwala village of Lambi today morning. The accused, Karanpreet Singh, who was allegedly known to the victim through social media, has been arrested.

The deceased reached the anganwadi centre in the morning to perform her daily duties when she was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. According to police officials, accused Karanpreet Singh of Ajnala had been in contact with the victim for the past six months through social media. Investigators said the woman had reportedly been upset with the accused for the past some time.

Preliminary findings suggest that the accused visited the village a day earlier but could not meet her. On Wednesday morning, he allegedly reached the anganwadi centre and attacked her around 8 am, leading to her death on the spot.

A senior police official said the crime came to light shortly after 9 am, following which police teams rushed to the scene and launched an investigation. Statements of the victim’s family members, including her husband, are being recorded.

The victim’s relatives said she had left home for work as usual but they were later informed about the incident. They demanded strict action against the accused and justice for the family.

The police confirmed that the accused fled the scene after committing the crime but was later apprehended by multiple teams. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
