In last-minute relief, deportation of Pakistani woman married to CRPF jawan stayed
PTC News Desk: As India announced cancellation of visas for Pakistani nationals, several cases of cross-border marriages have come of light. Amongst certain interesting stories, one incident that has caught attention is of BSF jawan who married a Pakistani woman. What's moe interesting is that they got married digitally.
Minal Khan, a Pakistani national married a CRPF jawan Munir Kahn in an online ceremony performed in May 2024. She came to India in March 2025 after waiting for nine years for a visa, according to a report in Greater Kashmir. However after India cancelled the visas of all the Pakistani nationals and ordered their deportation while setting a deadline, Minal was on her way to Attari border in a bus teary -eyed to return when her lawyer called to inform they had secured a court stay on her deportation to Pakistan.
Minal Khan's application for extension of her visa, made before the Pahalgam attack, was pending with India's home ministry, according to its report.
Earlier, Minal appealed to the government to allow families to stay together.
"We have followed all the rules. I had applied for a Long Term Visa after my short-term visa expired in March. We were told that it would be cleared. But after the attack, I'm being separated from my husband. Like me, several children are being separated from their mother or father. This is inhuman. We pray to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deliver justice to us," she said.
The CRPF jawan's marriage to a Pakistani woman has raised eyebrows with several alleging it to be a case of 'marriage-trapping'
Others pointed out the fact that she was here even after her short-term visa expired on March 22.
However the reason behind Pakistani woman's deportation has not been cleared yet.
