India defeats Pakistan in Women's World Cup, clinching all 11 victories against arch rivals
PTC News Desk: India cruised past Pakistan in their second-round encounter of the Women’s World Cup at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. A steady knock from Harleen Deol and a late flourish by Richa Ghosh powered India to a total of 247. In response, Pakistan were bundled out for 159, with Kranti Gaud and Deepti Sharma taking three wickets each, giving India a commanding 88-run victory.
The win extended India’s perfect record against Pakistan in ODIs to 12–0 and marked their fifth consecutive triumph over their arch-rivals in Women’s World Cups — the joint-highest number of losses Pakistan have faced against any team in the tournament. The comprehensive win, India’s second of the competition, also lifted them to the top of the standings with a significant boost to their net run rate.
“It wasn’t easy to bat on, we wanted to bat long and see how much we got. It’s been raining and the ball was holding up on the pitch,” said captain Harmanpreet Kaur. “We wanted to keep wickets in hand, and Richa then gave us 30 (35*) crucial runs. Right now, I’m happy we won. Just want to go with the momentum when we go back to India.”
Union home minister, Amit Shah also lauded the victory and said, “A perfect strike. Dominating display of India’s cricketing might by our Women’s Cricket team in today’s match in the ICC Women’s World Cup. Nation is proud of our team. Best wishes for your upcoming matches,” he wrote on X.
