Indian Army retrieves cache of war-related supplies in Manipur

New Delhi, October 20: The Indian Army has conducted three successful operations in Manipur, resulting in the recovery of 36 weapons, 1,615 pieces of ammunition, and 132 other war-like stores. This marks the largest recovery of war-like stores in the region since May. All the confiscated weapons and stores have been handed over to Manipur Police in accordance with established procedures.

The operations were carried out in the ridges of Khamenlok-Gwalthabi, Wakan, and Shantipur by the 2nd battalion of the 8th Regiment of Gorkha Rifles. These areas are located in the Imphal East district of Manipur.

The ridges of Khamenlok-Gwalthabi, Wakan, and Shantipur separate different villages inhabited by two conflicting communities in Imphal East. Intelligence reports had indicated the accumulation of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores by both communities on opposite sides of the ridges.

It is believed that insurgents may have been amassing this cache of weapons in preparation for potential strikes in each other's territory.

To address this situation, Army units stationed at Sagolmang in Imphal East were tasked with conducting extensive surveillance and coordinated search operations on the ridges. The primary objective of these operations was to recover as many war-like stores as possible and to disrupt any attempts at firing or arson by insurgents and troublemakers.
