Indian missing in Iran update: Tehran police rescue three missing Indian nationals
Three missing Indian nationals rescued: Three Indian citizens who had been reported missing in Iran last month have now been safely recovered, according to a statement released by the Iranian Embassy in India on Tuesday. The embassy cited reports from Iranian media confirming the development.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had earlier acknowledged the case and stated that it was actively communicating with Iranian authorities to trace the individuals.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Iranian Embassy posted: “Three missing Indian citizens freed by Tehran police.” It further added, “As per local Iranian media, law enforcement authorities have located and released the three Indian nationals who had disappeared in Iran.”
More details regarding how the men went missing and the circumstances of their recovery are yet to be made public.
Notably, the three men from Punjab were stopped in Iran on May 1 on their way to Australia. A local travel company had promised them lucrative jobs in Australia. The kidnapping of the three men was reported to Tehran police on May 1.
Tehran-based Tasnim news agency said the three men had been freed in a police operation against the hostage takers in Varamin in south Tehran.
