"Yoga is one of our civilization's great accomplishments and India's great gift to the rest of the world. Yoga brings together the body and the mind and it is a holistic approach to life. PM Modi on International Yoga Day

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the countrymen on the occasion and said that the coming together of more than 180 countries on India's call is 'historic'.

The Prime Minister is currently on his first state visit to the United States, where he will lead International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters in New York today.

"At around 5:30 pm IST, I will participate in the Yoga program which is being organised at the headquarters of the United Nations. The coming together of more than 180 countries on India's call is historic. When the proposal for Yoga Day came to the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, it was supported by a record number of countries," PM Modi said.

International Yoga Day 2023

International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21 every year across the world. The day serves as a platform to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of yoga, promoting its holistic approach to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

This year's Yoga Day theme is 'Yoga For Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' which translates to "Yoga for the Welfare of All" in the form of "One World-One Family."

It emphasises the spirit of Yoga, which unifies and guides everyone. Yoga events will be held in every corner of the country, as they have been in the past.

Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is good for your physical, mental, and emotional health. It improves your flexibility, strength, and balance. Yoga asanas (postures) improve joint mobility, muscular tone, and overall body strength. It also improves posture and alignment. Regular yoga practice can help you sleep better. It fosters positive thinking, decreases stress, and increases self-awareness.
