India's population projected to reach 1.52 billion by 2036: Government report

PTC News Desk: The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation's "Women and Men in India 2023" report projects that there will be 152.2 crore people living in India by 2036.

When the last national census was carried out in February 2011, 121, 08,54,977 people were counted in the nation.

"The publication is a thorough and perceptive work that offers information on a variety of subjects and aims to present a full picture of the status of men and women in India. According to the ministry's "Women and Men in India 2023" study, "its disaggregated data helps to understand the disparities that exist between different groups of men and women."

According to the report, women will make up 48.8 per cent of the population in 2036 as opposed to 48.5 per cent in 2011. As a result, it is anticipated that there would be 952 females for every 1000 males, down from 943 previously.

Additionally, it is predicted that in 2036, the percentage of people under the age of 15 would have dropped, with reduced fertility being the most likely reason for this. On the other hand, the survey indicated that throughout the past 25 years, the percentage of people 60 and older will have climbed.

China "will soon cede its long-held status as the world's most populous country," according to a United Nations statement from April of last year. The UN had said that "India's population is expected to reach 1,425,775,850 people by the end of this month, matching and then surpassing the population of the mainland China."

India's population 'will have peaked in the early 2060s at roughly 1.7 billion (170 crore) and subsequently decrease by 12 per cent, but the country will remain the world's most populous throughout the century,' the World Bank said in its 'The World Population Prospects 2024' study published last month.
