Interim Budget 2024: Nirmala Sitharaman vows to deliver 2 cr houses in next 5 years
Interim Budget 2023: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday anniounced that the government aimed to construct two crore houses within the next five years under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Gramin Yojana, addressing the increasing demand resulting from a growing number of families. Presenting the Interim Budget in the Lok Sabha, Nirmala Sitharaman stated, "Two crore more houses will be built in the next five years to meet the requirements arising from the increase in the number of families." '
Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, she highlighted the government's near achievement of the target to build three crore houses.
In the Interim Budget 2024 speech, Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised the continuity of the PM Awas Gramin Yojana's implementation despite pandemic hurdles. She stated, "Despite the challenges of the pandemic, PM Awas Gramin Yojana's implementation continued. We are close to achieving the target of three crore houses. And two crore more houses will be taken up in the next five years to meet the requirements arising from the increase in the number of families."
The announcement underscores the government's commitment to addressing housing needs, particularly in the context of the evolving demographic landscape.
