IPS Officer Y Puran Kumar cremated with full state honours in Chandigarh, eight days after he died by suicide

PTC News Desk:  IPS Officer Y Puran Kumar was cremated in Chandigarh on Wednesday, eight days after he died by committing suicide. He was cremated with full state honours at Sector 25 crematorium with several bureaucrats in attendance. 


The atmosphere turned sombre as his wife, IAS Officer Amneet P Kumar bid tearful farewell to her husband as she grieved inconsolably. 

Security measures were significantly heightened with several teams of police officials deployed. 

Earlier this morning, Kumar's post mortem was conducted at PGI, Chandigarh by a duly constituted medical board, after his wife's consent following Haryana government's assurance to conduct rigorous investigation into the matter. 

The post-mortem report will be submitted to the Investigating Officer of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). 

Notably, the post mortem was carried out nine days after Haryana ADGP Y Puran Kumar allegedly died by suicide and his body was found at his residence in sector 11. A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which he alleged harassment by senior officials including DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya.
