J-K: Police arrest JeM associate in Pulwama; arms, ammunition seized
Kashmir (Jammu and Kashmir), February 13: In a joint operation with Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday thwarted nefarious designs of terrorists. the Police also arrested an associate from the proscribed terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Pulwama.
In addition, huge cache of arms and ammunition have also been from the possession of the accused. The accused has been identified as Showkat Ahmed resident of Naina in Bhatpora. He is said to be involved in terrorist activities and transportation of weapons in the general area of Pulwama.
Police said they responded after receiving information about the delivery of a consignment of weapons in the Pulwama area. A special police and army team (55RR) was immediately formed and deployed covertly at various suspicious locations, they added.
One suspect riding a scooty was arrested near the petrol pump in Naina Bhatpora, within the limits of the Litter police station. The man attempted to flee the scene after noticing the joint party but was apprehended by the team. As a result, the joint team swung into action and recovered the arms and ammunition.
"The caught person has been identified as Showkat Ahmed Digoo resident of Naina, Bhatpora," police added.
Police also stated that during the investigation, they seized one pistol, 25 Chinese grenades, two pistol magazines, 230 pistol cartridges, ten AK magazines, 300 AK cartridges, and other incriminating materials.
During the investigation, the suspected Showkat Ahmed revealed that he was in contact with a jailed terrorist associate, Firdous Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Naina who is currently lodged at Central Jail Rajouri.
"He further disclosed that he was working for Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist outfit and this huge cache of arms and ammunition was meant for further distribution on the behest and coordination of the jailed terrorist associate in order to carry out terror attacks on Police and security forces and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the valley," police informed.
