Kanwar Yatra Tragedy: 9 Kanwariyas electrocuted to death in Bihar

Kanwar Yatra Tragedy: In a tragic and horrific incident, at least nine Shiva devotees-Kanwariyas, electrocuted to death on Sunday when their vehicle came into contact with a high-voltage wire.

This unfortunate event occurred in Sultanpur village, within the industrial police station area of Hajipur, Bihar.

Meanwhile, over six people suffered injuries and one reported to be in critical condition, currently receiving treatment at the Sadar Hospital in Hajipur.

The tragic accident took place while the Kanwariyas were riding a DJ trolley en route to perform Jalabhishek at the Baba Hariharnath Temple in Sonepur.

The vehicle's considerable height caused it to touch a high-tension wire, according to Om Prakash, the Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Hajipur.

Notably, Kanwariyas are Hindu devotees who participate in an annual pilgrimage known as the Kanwar Yatra. This pilgrimage usually takes place during the Hindu month of Shravan (July-August). During the yatra, devotees walk barefoot to collect sacred water from the Ganges River and carry it back to their local Shiva temples in small pitchers called "kanwars."
