Kerala man tries to open door of Air India Express flight, arrested

A 25-year-old man was arrested by Mumbai police on Monday for allegedly assaulting cabin crew on an Air India Express flight from Kozhikode to Bahrain and attempting to open the aircraft's door, according to an official.

Kerala man tries to open door of Air India Express flight, arrested

PTC Web Desk: A 25-year-old man was arrested by Mumbai police on Monday for allegedly assaulting cabin crew on an Air India Express flight from Kozhikode to Bahrain and attempting to open the aircraft's door, according to an official.

The accused, Abdul Musavir Nadukandee, was arrested after the flight made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Saturday, according to a Sahar police official.


Nadukandee, who is from Kerala, woke up when the flight took off from Kozhikode and immediately went to the back of the aircraft, where he allegedly assaulted the cabin crew and attempted to open the aircraft's door.

When the crew members were able to return the man to his seat, he began verbally abusing and assaulting other passengers, threatening to open the emergency door, the official said.

The pilot made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and informed the security personnel of the potential security threat.

According to the official, a case has been filed against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Aircraft Act as well as sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 336 (act endangering life), and 504 (provocation to breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code.
