These experts are set to conduct a psycho-analysis test on Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect in this heinous crime.
Roy, who was apprehended by the Kolkata Police just a day after the discovery of the victim's semi-naked body in the seminar hall of the hospital, has a controversial background. A civic volunteer and trained boxer, Roy is said to have cultivated close ties with several senior police officers over the years. These connections eventually led to his assignment to the Kolkata Police Welfare Board, where he was stationed at the RG Kar Hospital's police outpost, according to reports from news agency PTI.
Nationwide Protests and IMA's Plea to PM Modi: In the wake of the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder, protests have erupted across the country. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has taken a strong stance, writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and address the doctors' demands. The IMA has called for a nationwide 24-hour protest, urging the implementation of the Healthcare Services Personnel and Clinical Establishments (Prohibition of Violence and Damage to Property) Bill, 2019, commonly referred to as the Central Protection Act.
CBI Interrogation of Hospital Authorities: The CBI has been intensively questioning Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. For the second consecutive day, Dr. Ghosh was interrogated late into the night, with questions focusing on his immediate reaction to the trainee doctor's death, his communication with the victim's family, and his actions regarding the involvement of the police.
Political Backlash and Public Outcry: Amid the ongoing protests, BJP leader Sajal Ghosh, who is also the chief organizer of the popular Santosh Mitra Square Puja Committee, has made a public appeal to Durga Puja committees across West Bengal. He has urged them to reject the Trinamool government's Rs 85,000 honorarium as a form of protest against what he describes as the government's failure to ensure the safety of women in the state.
Legal Action and Supreme Court Petition: A petition related to the Kolkata rape-murder case has been submitted to the Supreme Court, urging the Chief Justice to take suo-motu cognizance of the brutal crime. The petition highlights the need for immediate judicial intervention to ensure justice.
Union Minister's Allegations Against West Bengal Government: Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi has criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing the state government and local police of conspiring with "TMC goons" to destroy crucial evidence in the case. The minister condemned the state's handling of the investigation, adding fuel to the ongoing public and political outrage.
