'Losers must stop blaming’: Outgoing CEC Rajiv Kumar talks tough on opposition in farewell remarks

PTC News Desk: Outgoing Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar came down heavily on opposition in his farewell remarks. He said that the Election Commission is made a scapegoat by those who are not willing to accept electoral defeat.

“The Commission, as an institution, often finds itself unfairly blamed by those unwilling to accept electoral outcomes. A pressing concern is the growing tendency to target election officials in the aftermath of electoral contests. It is perceived as a convenient scapegoat,” Rajiv Kumar said .

Kumar also emphasised that the unfair practice of maligning ECI officials should be ceased. “Dialogue should always be the preferred approach and while the Commission reacts with sagacity, stoicism and restraint, this is a disturbing trend and should be abandoned soon,” he stated.

He further noted that as candidates and their parties are involved in every stage of the election process with ‘full transparency,’ then, without raising objections or filing appeals during the process, their attempts to create ‘doubts’ later are 'undesirable.'

The outgoing CEC Rajiv Kumar's remarks came amid mounting allegations by the opposition that the Election Commission workd in compliance with ruling party BJP. Several parties including Congress, NCP-Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena (UBT) have on multiple platforms alleged irregularities in voter turnout data and EVM battery life.
