Lt Vinay Narwal’s wife appeals for peace, urges people not to blame Kashmiris, Muslims after Pahalgam terror attack

PTC Web Desk: In the aftermath of the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the life of Indian Army Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, his wife Himanshi Narwal has made a heartfelt appeal to the nation—calling for justice, peace, and unity while strongly condemning hatred against Kashmiris and Muslims.

On the occasion of her husband’s birth anniversary, Himanshi spoke during a blood donation camp organised in his memory. She urged people not to generalise the incident or spread hate against any community. "After the incident, the way people are speaking against Muslims and Kashmiris is wrong. We want peace and only peace. Justice must be delivered, and the culprits must be punished," she said emotionally.

"I don’t hate anyone," she added, emphasising her commitment to promoting harmony despite her personal tragedy.

The blood donation drive, held in Karnal, Haryana, saw participation from many locals and supporters even from outside the city. Family members, including Himanshi and Vinay’s sister Srishti Narwal, donated blood in his honour.

Srishti expressed gratitude for the support, saying, "The presence of so many people here helps carry forward Vinay’s ideology. This drive is our tribute to him."

Lt Vinay Narwal was among 26 persons killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Himanshi recounted the horrifying moment when her husband was shot dead in front of her.

"We had just reached Baisaran around 2 pm after a short trek when I heard gunshots. I alerted Vinay, and a man nearby—whom I hadn’t noticed earlier—looked at him and said, ‘He is not a Muslim either,’ and immediately shot him. Vinay fell to the ground. Then the man told me to leave. I screamed and questioned him, but he walked away without another word," she recalled.

Himanshi also highlighted the lack of immediate response, saying, "It took the police at least an hour to reach. Nobody came forward to help. Vinay was treated at the Pahalgam hospital and later shifted to Srinagar, but by the time I reached, he had already been moved."

"I want my husband to receive the highest honours in the country. There should have been better security and immediate evacuation with a chopper," she said, calling for systemic changes in the way such emergencies are handled.

Himanshi also confirmed her desire to follow in her husband's path of national service, when asked about continuing his legacy.

Himanshi stressed that such a tragedy should not be repeated for any family. "We only seek justice and peace. The terrorists must be punished. But blaming communities is not the answer."

Srishti Narwal, Vinay’s sister, said the overwhelming public response would help keep his ideals alive. The family thanked everyone who supported the blood donation drive.
