Lucknow court summons Rahul Gandhi over 2022 remarks against Army
PTC News Desk: A special MP-MLA court has summoned Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in connection with the defamation case related to his remarks on the Army in 2022. The leader of opposition in Lok Sabha has been directed to appear in court on March 24.
The complainant Uday Shankar Srivastava, former director of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has alleged that Gandhi's remarks during Bharat Jodo Yatra were defamatory in context with the India Army.
As per the complaint Rahul Gandhi said, "I wagered a bet with my friend that the press will not ask me anything about China. The press will not ask me anything about a country which has usurped 2,000 sq km of Indian land, a country that killed our soldiers in our country and a country that is attacking our soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh. I was right. The country is watching. Don’t think otherwise.”
Srivastava, the complainant, argued that Gandhi's remarks insulted the Army and undermined their valiant efforts to safeguard the nation's borders. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court summoned Gandhi as an accused in the case.
