Maharashtra hospital deaths: Shiv Sena MP makes dean of Nanded facility clean toilet, urinals
Maharashtra hospital deaths: The dean of the Government Hospital in Nanded, Maharashtra, cleaned the facility's dirty toilet after an MP from the ruling Shiv Sena asked him to do so. Notably, 31 people died in the hospital in 48 hours.
Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MP Hemant Patil paid a visit to the Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital on Tuesday after the deaths made national headlines. Patil approached the hospital's dean, Shyamrao Wakode, and asked him to clean the filthy toilet.
The MP may be seen standing and holding a pipe while the dean empties the toilet and places a container, a bottle, and a toilet brush on a window. Patil can then be seen spraying water into the toilet while Wakode, equipped with a wiper, directs unclean water streams into the commode.
The hospital reported 24 deaths in 24 hours on Monday and the death toll rose to 31 in 48 hours on Tuesday. 71 patients are stated to be in critical condition.
Wakode had denied charges of health care negligence on Monday, claiming that there was no shortage of medicines or doctors. He stated that the patients were given proper care but did not respond to it.
A committee has been constituted to investigate the deaths, according to Dr. Dilip Mhaisekar, Director of Medical Education and Research.
