Major rejig: Over 100 bureaucrats transferred amid political turmoil in Bihar

Major rejig: Following reports that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may rejoin the BJP, the Bihar government has issued transfer orders for 79 Indian Police Service (IPS) and 45 Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) officers in the state.

Bihar's bureaucratic reshuffle took place on Friday.


According to a state government notification, IPS Sushil Mansingh Khopde, who previously served as the Special Task Force's Additional Director General (Operations), has been appointed ADG (Prohibition).

IPS Amrit Raj (1998-batch IPS), who previously served as ADG (Prohibition), has been appointed ADG (Operations). Deepak Ranjan, the current Superintendent of Police in Jehanabad, has been appointed commandant of the Bihar Special Armed Police, Bodh Gaya.

The current Superintendent of Police (Araria), Ashok Kumar Singh, has been appointed as the new commandant of the Bihar Special Armed Police, Sasaram, according to a government notification.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which he left in 2022 to form the 'Mahagathbandhan' with the opposition.

According to sources, Nitish Kumar is set to take the oath as Chief Minister of Bihar's new Janata Dal (United)-BJP alliance on January 28. Sushil Modi, a prominent BJP leader, is set to be sworn in as his deputy.
