Man who threatened ‘human bomb blasts’, 400kg RDX in Mumbai , arrested
PTC News Desk: A man has been arrested in Noida for allegedly sending a threat message to Mumbai Police, warning of multiple blasts in the city during ongoing Ganesh festival celebrations.
The message, sent on Thursday to the traffic police’s WhatsApp helpline, claimed that 14 terrorists had entered Mumbai with 400 kg of RDX hidden in 34 vehicles. The alert triggered a major security response as the police were already preparing for Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of the Ganesh festival, scheduled for Saturday.
According to sources, the suspect was identified as Ashwini. His arrest followed after Mumbai Police, during their inquiry, shared information with Noida Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, who then formed a team to apprehend him.
Police said the threat message also mentioned an outfit named ‘Lashkar-e-Jihadi.’ Officials clarified that similar bomb threats had been received in the past and urged citizens not to panic. Security has been tightened across sensitive areas, combing operations are underway, and people have been advised to report any suspicious activity.
While the message appears to be a hoax, investigators are conducting a technical analysis to trace its source. Given the huge crowds expected on immersion day, police said they were exercising extreme caution.
A case has been registered at Worli police station under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and subsections 2, 3, and 4. Over 21,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order as lakhs of devotees take part in idol immersions at the sea, lakes, and artificial ponds.
