'Manhandled by unruly BJP crowd': Congress leader Jairam Ramesh's vehicle attacked

PTC News Desk: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed on Sunday that men carrying BJP flags attacked an SUV and chanted anti-Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra slogans in Assam.

The veteran leader said he kept his cool and waved to the "hooligans," who he claimed were part of an "unruly BJP crowd," blaming state Chief Minister Himanta Sarma for the "attack."

The Rahul Gandhi-led Yatra is on its fourth day in the state, traveling from Biswanth district to Nagaon via Sonitpur.

"My vehicle was attacked a few minutes ago at Jumugurihat, Sunitpur, by an unruly BJP crowd who also tore off the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra stickers from the windshield. They threw water and shouted anti-BJNY slogans. But we kept our composure, waived to the hooligans and sped away. This is undoubtedly the Assam CM @himantabiswa's doing. We are not intimidated and will soldier on," the Congress leader posted on X.

The men also attacked the cameraman and other members of the Congress social media team, including women, according to the party's latest X post.

"The camera, badge, and other equipment of a vlogger who was covering the Yatra were taken. Members of the party's social media team were also harassed," Congress communications coordinator Mahima Singh stated.

Singh stated that a BJP event was taking place in the area and that some media members had gotten out of their vehicles to capture some images.

"They made us feel very intimidated. They have refused to return the vlogger's camera, claiming that it was not snatched," she explained.
