Manipur Violence: NCW to submit report to government on incident within 1-2 days
Bhopal, July 28: The National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson, Rekha Sharma, announced that the commission will present its report on the Manipur incident to the government within the next one or two days. During her visit to Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, for an awareness programme on challenges faced by women of denotified tribes, she shared her interaction with the victims and women organisations involved in the Manipur incident. Sharma mentioned that she will prepare the report based on her findings and submit it to the government promptly.
Regarding the Udupi video incident in Karnataka, Sharma informed that one of their members, Khushboo Sundar, is currently investigating the matter and will meet the victims before further action is taken based on her report.
Discussing the crime against women in Rajasthan, Sharma criticised the state government's lack of concern and the blame game between the center and the state. She recounted an incident in Rajasthan where a woman was shot and thrown into a well, and the police took no action for about 15 hours. Sharma stressed the urgency of prompt action to prevent such tragedies.
When asked about the states with the highest number of reported cases of women atrocities, Sharma cited Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh as the top states in their data.
Regarding Chhattisgarh, Sharma shared her recent visit to the state and expressed concern that FIRs were not registered on time for crimes against women, leading to insufficient data. She highlighted the issue of police not filing FIRs in such cases, emphasising the importance of immediate action in addressing women's grievances.
