Missing Indian MBBS student in Russia found dead in dam near White River; family seeks help to bring body home

PTC Web Desk:  The body of Ajit Singh Chaudhary, a 22-year-old Indian student fro m Alwar, Rajasthan, who went missing in Russia last month, has reportedly been found in a dam near the White River. Chaudhary was pursuing his MBBS at Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa, where he had enrolled in 2023.

According to media reports, Ajit went missing on October 19 after he left his hostel around 11 am to buy milk but never returned. His family and friends launched a search when his phone was found switched off. Later, his jacket, shoes and mobile phone were discovered on a riverbank.

In the wake of the tragic discovery, the All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has written to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, urging them to facilitate the repatriation of Chaudhary’s body to India at the earliest.

As per Ajit’s uncle, Bhoom Singh, the family received a call from Russian police on October 20, a day after he went missing. However, he said the situation remained unclear.

“Later, his roommate informed the hostel warden about Ajit’s disappearance, but now even the warden is not responding properly. We tried to contact the college authorities but haven’t received any reply yet. We are completely in the dark about what has happened to Ajit,” he said.

He added that after speaking with the warden, it appeared that local authorities were suggesting Ajit might have jumped into the river. However, his family has not confirmed this theory and continues to seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding his death.

Ajit Singh Chaudhary was reportedly scheduled to return to India in November, just weeks after he went missing. His family has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs for immediate assistance in bringing his body back home.
