New Year turns into nightmare: New Year eve and celebration, typically a time of joy and anticipation, turns into a nightmare for female student of Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati and heightened the state of panic and scare among students.
Tension, chaos and scare gripped Guwahati’s Institute of Technology (IIT) as in shocking, horrific and unsettling incident a BTech fourth-year student in the Electronics and Communications department of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, identified as Aishwarya Pulluri has been found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room after the New Year party.

As per the reports and preliminary investigation, Aishwarya Pulluri who hailed from Telengana met a tragic end after New Year celebrations in Paltan Bazaar, located approximately 25 kilometers from her institute.
The reports disclosed that Aishwarya Pulluri had attended a party in the city's Paltan Bazaar area with three of her fellow students on the evening of December 31 to usher in the New Year but however has been found dead under mysterious circumstances the next morning.
Detailing the events, police and authorities mentioned that Aishwarya Pulluri and her friends reserved two hotel rooms through an online platform. Upon reaching the hotel for check-in post-midnight, the hotel staff observed signs of intoxication. The next day, the girl was found unconscious in the restroom by her roommate, who shared the same hotel room.
She was rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.
The police are further investigation the horrific incident and is also questioning and interrogating victim’s friends.

Expressing condolences and deep concern over demise of BTech fourth-year student, IIT-Guwahati issued a statement and wrote, "It is with deep regret that IIT Guwahati shares the unfortunate news of the death of a student outside the campus on 31st December 2023. The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.”
As the clock strikes midnight and the calendar resets, there is often a societal pressure to embark on the upcoming year with positivity, resolutions, and aspirations. However, the same is not for everyone and for some the calendar resent may start with the bad turn events for the year.
