Nishikant Dubey's 'degree allegations' counter to Mahua Moitra: Not just about Adani

New Delhi, October 25: Nishikant Dubey, a BJP MP, responded to allegations of a "fake degree" by Mahua Moitra with fresh accusations. He shifted the focus to her involvement in Parliament, questioning whether her login had been accessed from Dubai and whether she traded questions for money. The dispute centers on Moitra's alleged acceptance of bribes from industrialist Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising questions about Adani in Parliament. While the Ethics Committee looked into Dubey's allegations, Moitra dismissed it as a "BJP's hit job" and demanded an investigation into Dubey's alleged fake degree.

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a letter to Nishikant Dubey, recognized the seriousness of the "cash for questions" allegations and pledged the cooperation of the National Informatics Centre, which falls under the IT Ministry, with the Ethics Committee's investigation.

Mahua Moitra countered Dubey's claims by noting that Dubey had previously stated that NIC had provided details about "Dubai logins" to the investigative agency, raising questions about the credibility of the accusations against her and attributing it to political strategists.

Darshan Hiranandani, the industrialist accused of bribing Moitra for questions related to Adani, admitted to his actions and called it an "error of judgment." He clarified that he had signed the affidavit voluntarily and without any external pressure. Hiranandani notarised the document at the Indian Consulate in Dubai and submitted it to the Privilege Committee of Lok Sabha, with copies sent to the CBI and Dr. Nishikant Dubey via email.
