Noida slum fire: 3 girls charred to death, parents sustain injuries
Noida slum fire: A slum area in Noida's Sector 8 caught fire on Wednesday morning. The fire claimed the lives of three minor girls from the same family, while their parents sustained injuries.
According to reports, the family was asleep when the fire broke out in their home. The three daughters, Aastha (10 years old), Naina (7 years old), and Aradhya (5 years old), were unable to escape and died in the fire. The parents were taken to Noida District Hospital, where the father suffered serious injuries and was thereafter referred to Safdarjung Hospital.
The fire is suspected to have started as a result of a short circuit caused by a battery charging in the room. Neighbours notified the fire station, and two engines were deployed to the scene.
"The incident occurred between 3 and 4 a.m., and as soon as we received the information, our police squad, fire department, and I rushed to the scene. The fire began as a result of a short circuit. The forensic team is on the scene and conducting the investigation," said District Magistrate Manish Varma. "There were five people in the room; three little girls sleeping on the bed sustained fatal burn injuries and died in the hospital. The children's father received 60-70% burns; he was treated at the district hospital before being taken to Safdarjung," he added.
