'One step closer': PM Modi on ISRO's Gaganyaan test flight success
PM Modi on Gaganyaan test flight success: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Saturday for successfully completing a crucial test in India's first manned space mission program, Gaganyaan.
Taking to X, PM Modi said, "This launch takes us one step closer to realising India's first human space flight program, Gaganyaan. My best wishes to our scientists at @isro."
The Gaganyan project aims to demonstrate human spaceflight capability by launching a three-person crew into orbit at 400 kilometres altitude for a three-day mission and safely returning them to Earth by landing in Indian waters.
After being aborted at 8:45 a.m. today due to an issue with the engine ignition, ISRO successfully executed the maiden test flight of the 'TV-D1' (Test Vehicle Development Flight 1) of the Gaganyaan Mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota.
The Crew Escape System and Crew Module were launched at an altitude of 17 km before landing safely in the sea around 10 kilometres from Sriharikota in the Bay of Bengal.
The Liquid Propelled Single Stage Test Vehicle is propelled by a modified VIKAS engine with a Crew Module (CM) and Crew Escape System (CES) installed at its foreend.
"After the successful launch of the Chandrayaan-3, our nation is ready to take its next giant stride in the realm of space. Today, the ISRO launched Gaganyaan's TV-D1 Test Flight into space, scripting another remarkable space odyssey. My heartfelt congratulations to our scientists and our citizens on this momentous occasion of success and fulfilment," Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated ISRO on X.
