NCW condemns trolling of Lt Vinay Narwal’s wife for peace appeal after Pahalgam terror attack
PTC Web Desk: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has strongly condemned the online harassment of Himanshi Narwal, the wife of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The commission stated that targeting a woman for expressing her ideology or emotions is unacceptable and goes against the principles of dignity and constitutional rights.
Himanshi had made an emotional public appeal following her husband’s tragic death in the April 22 attack that left 26 civilians dead. In her statement, she said, “I just want the entire nation to pray for him (Vinay), that wherever he is, he is at peace. That’s the only thing I want. There is one more thing I want. There should be no hatred towards anyone. I’m seeing this happening—that people are spewing hate at Muslims or Kashmiris. We do not want this. We want peace and only peace.”
Despite her heartfelt appeal, she faced severe trolling on social media, with many targeting her for urging peace and speaking against communal hatred.
The NCW took note of the situation and issued a formal statement on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “After the death of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal ji, the way his wife Ms. Himanshi Narwal ji is being targeted on social media in relation to one of her statements is extremely reprehensible and unfortunate.”
The commission reiterated that trolling women based on their personal beliefs or ideological expressions is entirely unacceptable. It further urged that any disagreement—political, ideological, or otherwise—should be conveyed respectfully and within the bounds of the Constitution.
“The National Commission for Women is committed to protect the dignity and respect of every woman,” the statement added. “The entire country is hurt and angry by this terrorist attack,” NCW concluded.
