'Pakistan requested ceasefire': India rejects China's mediation claim with Pakistan
PTC News Desk: India has categorically dismissed China’s assertion that it played a mediating role between New Delhi and Islamabad during the military standoff earlier this year, stressing that the ceasefire was achieved without any third-party involvement.
New Delhi has repeatedly underlined that the May 10 ceasefire, which followed Operation Sindoor, resulted from direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan.
"This year, local wars and cross-border conflicts flared up more often than at any time since the end of WWII," Wang Yi said at an event on Tuesday.
"Following this Chinese approach to settling hotspot issues, we mediated in northern Myanmar, the Iranian nuclear issue, the tensions between Pakistan and India, the issues between Palestine and Israel, and the recent conflict between Cambodia and Thailand," the Chinese foreign minister said.
The clarification comes in response to remarks by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who echoed Donald Trump-style claims by saying Beijing had mediated several international conflicts, including the India–Pakistan confrontation in May. Wang also said China had adopted an objective and neutral approach aimed at fostering lasting peace by addressing both immediate tensions and their underlying causes.
