PTC Web Desk: A tragic incident occurred in New Delhi as a 51-year-old man, Vinod Kumar, succumbed to severe injuries sustained after a metro wall collapsed earlier in the day. The incident took place at the Gokulpuri metro station, where a portion of the boundary wall collapsed around 11 am. Vinod Kumar, a resident of Karawal Nagar, lost his life in the unfortunate incident.

The Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) swiftly responded by announcing a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for the family of the deceased. In addition, an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 and Rs 2.5 lakh will be provided to those with minor and grievous injuries, respectively. Expressing concern over the incident, DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said two DMRC officials, a manager and a junior engineer from the civil department, have been suspended pending an inquiry.

Four other persons suffered injuries in the Gokulpuri metro station boundary wall collapse and have been identified as Ajit Kumar (21), Monu (19), Sandeep (27), and Mohd Tazir (24), all residents of New Delhi. The DMRC assured a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident, emphasizing the commitment to taking remedial measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As a precautionary measure, train services on the small stretch from Maujpur to Shiv Vihar are being run on a single line to attend to the fallen portion towards the Up platform on Gokulpuri station, which has been temporarily closed. However, train services on the rest of the Pink Line are operating normally.

The incident has prompted the DMRC to share all relevant details with the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for further examination. The authorities have also stated that a case under relevant sections of the law will be registered in connection with the tragic incident, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation into the structural integrity of metro facilities to ensure the safety of commuters.
