Patanjali ads case: Ramdev and Balkrishna release fresh 'public apology' following Supreme Court scrutiny

PTC News Desk: Following a reprimand from the Supreme Court on April 23 regarding the adequacy of Patanjali's apology, co-founders Ramdev and Balkrishna have issued a fresh public apology published in newspapers today.

The Supreme Court had raised concerns about the size and visibility of the previous apology issued by the company in response to misleading advertisements.

The new "unconditional public apology" by Patanjali, issued both individually and on behalf of the company, addresses the ongoing contempt case before the Supreme Court. It expresses remorse for the company's failure to comply with the court's directives and acknowledges mistakes made in previous advertisements.

The apology pledges a commitment to prevent such errors in the future and assures compliance with court orders and relevant laws.

Earlier, Ramdev and Balkrishna had submitted an "unconditional and unqualified apology" to the Supreme Court regarding the misleading claims made in the company's advertisements.

During the court proceedings on Tuesday, the bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah questioned the prominence of the apology's publication in newspapers. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Ramdev and Balkrishna, informed the bench that the apology had been published in 67 newspapers nationwide.

However, the bench sought clarification on the visibility of the apology and directed that the published advertisements be submitted for review. It emphasized the importance of examining the actual size and placement of the apology in newspapers.

The court scheduled a hearing on April 30 to consider the matter further, instructing that the advertisements be filed with copies provided to all parties involved.
