Patanjali Misleading ads case: Days after Supreme Court asked Patanjali Ayurveda’s managing director to appear before it on the next date of hearing for not responding to the contempt notice, managing director of Patanjali Ayurveda and an aide of Yoga guru Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna issued an apology to the Supreme Court for the company's misleading claims about its products and their medicinal efficacy.

In a court affidavit, Balkrishna expressed utmost respect for the rule of law. Offering an "unconditional apology," he pledged that the company would take measures to prevent the circulation of similar advertisements in the future.

Balkrishna clarified that the company's sole aim is to encourage people to lead healthier lives by using Patanjali products, particularly those designed for lifestyle-related ailments, supported by ancient texts and ayurvedic research. 

He criticised the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, labelling it as outdated, noting that it hasn't been updated despite advancements in ayurvedic research.

The affidavit emphasised that Patanjali now possesses scientifically backed data and clinical research in Ayurveda, showcasing progress in addressing diseases mentioned in the legislation.

SC rebukes Patanjali over allopathy remarks, threatens heavy fine

Earlier in February 27, the Supreme Court issued contempt notice to Patanjali and restrained firm from issuing misleading ads. The court stressed the necessity to combat misleading advertisements while seeking genuine solutions to health issues without making unsubstantiated claims.

The ongoing dispute underscores the clash between traditional practices like yoga and Ayurveda against allopathic medicine, sparking legal and ethical debates within the medical community.
