PTC News Desk: A doctor at a private hospital in Delhi was allegedly attacked with a knife by his patient, according to authorities on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, and the doctor received only a minor cut on his thumb as the attacker was captured by guards at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Dr Satnam Chabra, a neurosurgeon, was attacked on Tuesday by Rajkumar, 21, whom he has been treating since 2021, according to police.

According to authorities, Rajkumar tried attacking the doctor with a small knife during a consultation appointment but was overpowered by hospital staff.

The police arrested Rajkumar, and on the doctor's complaint, legal action was filed against him under the Prevention of Violence Against Doctors, Medical Professionals, and Medical Institution Bill, 2018.

Earlier this year, a doctor on duty in Kerala's Kottarakara was stabbed to death in a government hospital by a patient taken there by police for treatment.

On May 11, a delegation of doctors led by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) met with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, citing concerns about the protection of health workers following the death of a doctor.

Following this, the Kerala government passed an ordinance aimed at improving workplace safety in healthcare facilities. The Kerala Health Care Service Workers and Health Care Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Amendment Ordinance, 2012 was passed at a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Vijayan.
