'Permission was granted': Dismissed jawan on marriage with Pakistani woman
PTC News Desk: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, Munir Ahmed who has been sacked from his service for allegedly hiding his marriage to a Pakistani national has denied charges and said that he had received prior approval from CRPF headquarters.
"I initially came to know about my dismissal through media reports. I shortly received a letter from the CRPF informing me about the dismissal which came as a shock to me and my family as I have sought and received permission for my marriage to a Pakistani woman from the headquarters," he said.
Ahmed, a resident of the Gharota area in Jammu and a CRPF member since April 2017, married Minal Khan from Pakistan’s Punjab province in May 2024 after the two connected and formed a relationship online. Their marriage was solemnized via a video call nikah ceremony on May 24, 2024. Ahmed stated that the marriage occurred nearly a month after he received official approval from CRPF headquarters.
"I am shocked by the dismissal, I initially got the news through media reports and then received an official letter from the CRPF. But I had sought and received the necessary permissions from the force before getting married," he said.
Minal Khan arrived in India through the Wagah-Attari border on February 28 with a short-term visa that was valid until March 22. However, her deportation was put on hold by the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh after she and Ahmed applied for a Long-Term Visa in March and fulfilled the required procedures, including attending an interview.
