PTC News Desk: The Uttar Pradesh police has registered a case against several social media accounts for allegedly posting and selling objectionable photos and videos of women pilgrims at Maha Kumbh.

The actions comes after Uttar Pradesh police ordered strict action as part of an ongoing crackdown against misleading and offensive social media content related to the religious gathering.

According to the reports, a storm of videos and photos of women bathing and changing clothes on river banks have been uploaded to several social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. Many of these videos lead people to Telegram, for alleged access to full videos of women bathing.

Some Facebook pages promoting pornographic content are constantly sharing videos of bathing women with captions like “Maha Kumbh Ganga Snan Prayagraj”. Some also use hashtags like #mahakumbh2025, #gangasnan, and #prayagrajkumbh in these posts.

As the incident came to light, a case was registered against an Instagram account for uploading objectionable pictures and videos of women pilgrims.

The police said they have sought information from Meta, the technology conglomerate that owns and operates Instagram, to identify the account operator, and action, including arrest, will follow once the details are received.
