PM Modi chairs high-level meet in Parliament to review India's energy security amid West Asia crisis
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a high-level high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in Parliament to review the rapidly changing situation in West Asia and its possible impact on India's energy security, according to sources.
The meeting is being attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju and JP Nadda. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval are also present, along with other senior government and security officials.
Sources said the discussions are focused on how the developments in West Asia could affect India's imports of crude oil, petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other key energy supplies. The committee is also reviewing the country's preparedness and contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies if the regional situation worsens.
The participation of the country's top security, diplomatic, economic and energy officials highlights the importance New Delhi is giving to the developments in West Asia, which supplies a large share of India's crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
An official statement on the outcome of the meeting is expected after it concludes.
