PM Modi conducts aerial survey of landslide-hit Wayanad
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the disaster-stricken regions of Kerala's Wayanad district, where landslides killed hundreds of people.
PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of the landslide-ravaged Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattom hamlets onboard an Indian Air Force chopper, which departed Kannur Airport at 11.15 a.m. for Wayanad.
He was accompanied by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum, and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi.
PM Modi's visit coincides with the Kerala government's appeal for Rs 2,000 crore in support of rehabilitation and relief efforts in the disaster-hit region.
At least 226 people were killed, and many more are still missing, after landslides struck the region on July 30 in what is regarded as one of the most severe natural catastrophes to hit the southern state.
