PM Modi lays foundation stones of Rs 20,000 crore projects in TN

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several development projects worth over 20,000 crore in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to inaugurate the new terminal building of the Tiruchirappalli International Airport.


The two-level terminal building cost more than 1100 crore to build. It has a capacity of more than 44 lakh passengers per year and approximately 3,500 during peak hours, according to an earlier official release from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

He arrived in Tiruchirappalli and was greeted by MK Stalin, the state chief minister, and RN Ravi, the governor. He attended the Bharathidasan University's 38th Convocation Ceremony.

During his speech, he quoted poet Bharathidasan's 'Puthiyathor Ulagam Seivom' Tamil verses, after whom the university was named, and said it meant creating a brave new world, which is also the university's motto.

He also stated that Indian youth were already working to create such a world. Through missions such as Chandrayaan-3, Indian scientists have put their country on the map, and 'our innovators increased the number of patents from around 4,000 in 2014 to nearly 50,000 now.
