PM Modi to launch BJP's Maharashtra campaign with Chandrapur rally today | Updates
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a massive rally in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district today, marking the commencement of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Lok Sabha election campaign in the state.
Scheduled for Monday, April 8, PM Modi's rally will kick-start the BJP's campaign in Maharashtra, with plans for at least 10 rallies across the state, beginning with Chandrapur. He will be supporting Sudhir Mungantiwar, the BJP candidate from Chandrapur, who also serves as Maharashtra's forest, cultural affairs, and fisheries minister under Eknath Shinde's cabinet. Mungantiwar's main opponent is Pratibha Dhanorkar of the Congress party, the widow of late MP Balu Dhanorkar.
The BJP aims to strategically hold Modi rallies in constituencies where stiff competition is expected from opposition parties. After Chandrapur, PM Modi will return to Maharashtra on April 14 to address a rally in Ramtek.
Commenting on the visit, BJP candidate Sudhir Mungantiwar stated, "PM Modi's visit provides an opportunity to interact with the people of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur. He will discuss the nation's development and address constituency-specific issues." Mungantiwar also criticized the previous Congress MP Balu Dhanorkar, alleging a lack of developmental initiatives in the area during his tenure.

Notably, Congress candidate Balu Dhanorkar clinched victory in the Chandrapur seat in 2019 but passed away in May 2023.
The forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections in Maharashtra are scheduled in five phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20.
