Rajya Sabha polls: Congress-BJP 3-1 in Karnataka, BJP takes Himachal, UP polls in thrilling limbo

PTC News Desk: The Rajya Sabha polls in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh have unfolded with dramatic twists, showcasing a 3-1 victory for Congress over BJP in Karnataka, while BJP clinched a seat in Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh witnesses a nail-biting finish as counting continues.

In Karnataka, amidst a backdrop of intense maneuvering, Congress secured three out of four Rajya Sabha seats, with Ajay Maken, Nasser Hussain, and GC Chandrashekar emerging triumphant. BJP managed to secure one seat with Narayansa Bhandage emerging victorious. Unfortunately, JD(S) leader D Kupendra Reddy faced defeat, gathering a mere 36 votes.

However, the scene in Himachal Pradesh remains tense as results are yet to be announced, and counting has been temporarily halted. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu raised concerns, alleging that Haryana Police had detained 5-6 Congress MLAs in Panchkula, Haryana.

The situation in Uttar Pradesh is equally riveting, with reports of rampant cross-voting and political defections. Notably, several prominent Samajwadi Party leaders openly supported BJP, sparking speculation of cross-voting. Manoj Pandey, who resigned as chief whip of the Samajwadi Party in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, was among five SP MLAs who met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

As the dust settles, it's clear that out of the 56 Rajya Sabha seats contested, 41 have essentially been secured, setting the stage for a significant shift in the Upper House's dynamics.
