Ramdev defends Patanjali amid SC warning; terms misleading claims as part of defamation agenda
New Delhi, November 22: Yoga guru Swami Ramdev, co-founder of Patanjali Ayurved, responded to the recent caution from the Supreme Court regarding the company's advertisements, dismissing allegations of spreading misleading information and labeling it as part of an agenda to defame the brand.
Addressing a press conference in Haridwar, Swami Ramdev said,"We respect the Supreme Court, but we are not involved in spreading false propaganda."
Yoga guru Ramdev highlighted the "existence of a group of doctors continuously targeting yoga and Ayurveda through propaganda". He challenged the allegations, asserting that "if proven false, the accusers should face penalties, but if Patanjali is innocent, those spreading misinformation should be held accountable".
Defending Patanjali's ayurvedic products, Ramdev emphasised their compliance with necessary clinical evidence, denouncing recent efforts to undermine the ancient practices of yoga and Ayurveda.
"There's a deliberate attempt to defame Patanjali and discredit centuries-old yoga and Ayurveda practices, alleging organ damage without factual basis. We possess extensive research and clinical evidence. This propaganda aims to tarnish Patanjali's reputation," he expressed.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had reprimanded Patanjali Ayurved over misleading advertisements against modern medical systems. This reprimand came in response to a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association against misleading advertisements.
A Bench comprising Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra issued a stern warning to the company co-founded by yoga guru Ramdev.
