PTC Web Desk: Shirish More Maharaj, the 11th-generation descendant of the revered 17th-century Marathi poet-saint Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj, allegedly ended life in Pune, the police confirmed on Wednesday.

A handwritten note discovered near his body suggested that financial hardship was a significant factor behind his tragic decision. The Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the matter.

According to police reports, his parents grew concerned when he failed to respond to their knocks on Wednesday morning. They immediately alerted the authorities, who forced open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling.

More Maharaj had recently gotten engaged, with his wedding scheduled for April or May this year. In addition to his spiritual pursuits, he ran a South Indian restaurant in Nigdi, Pune, police officials stated.

Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane expressed his condolences, calling Shirish Maharaj’s passing a great loss. “Descendant of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and RSS volunteer HBP Shirish Maharaj More passed away suddenly today. May God give strength to his family in this difficult time. Om Shanti,” Rane wrote on X.

A highly respected figure in his community, Shirish Maharaj was a renowned ‘kirtankar’ (kirtan performer) and a motivational speaker known for his spiritual discourses. His body has been sent for post-mortem, and the authorities continue their investigation.
