Snowfall, rain lash Himachal; leave 4 national highways, 350 roads closed
PTC News Desk: Significant disruptions to daily life have been caused by snowfall in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, particularly in the tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul & Spiti. There are now 350 roads closed to traffic, including four national highways.
The state's mid- and low-hill regions have seen sporadic rains, and the Met office in Shimla has issued a red alert for isolated areas of thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and heavy rain.
On Saturday, strong gusts with speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are also predicted.
Roads in the districts of Chamba, Kinnaur, and Lahaul & Spiti have been closed due to snowfall, and transformers aren't working properly.
With 290 roads closed, Lahaul & Spiti has been the worst hit, followed by Kinnaur with 32 closed roads. Shimla, Kangra, Mandi, Chamba, Kullu, and Shimla are among the other districts impacted. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 1,314 transformers in Himachal Pradesh are not functioning at the moment.
Shooting stones on the Shimla-Kinnaur Road have cut off the isolated Dodra Kwar subdivision in the Shimla district from the rest of the state. The Rohtang Pass has also been forced to close due to the heavy snowfall.
With 61.2 cm of snowfall, Gondla in Lahaul & Spiti has received the most snowfall in the state. Kukumseri (58 cm), Keylong (53 cm), Kalpa (51.7 cm), Pooh and Pangi (30 cm each), Khadrala (16 cm), Sangla (11.2 cm), Moorang (9.3 cm), and Atal Tunnel (6 cm) are among the other areas that received a substantial amount of snowfall. There hasn't been much snowfall in Manali.
